Who we are

Prior to establishing RHJB I worked predominantly in the southeast of England. Whilst working at the award winning Emptage Architects, I was able to hone my creativity and style, and in turn develop an eclectic portfolio, designing and leading several projects to further award successes. This varied mix of projects was spread across numerous sectors including Education, Retail, Residential and Leisure, with projects ranging from £250,000 – £80million.
My passion has always been contemporary architecture, but more over a desire to embrace the now and the future whilst respecting the past. Beauty is most definitely in the detail, but being able to see the bigger picture, being able to translate, present and explore this with our clients is where the fun lies.
Every project presents an opportunity to provide a unique modern solution that enriches its environment, be this home, office, school or other environments. I very much enjoy the design process, working closely with our clients to achieve well considered, striking proposals and buildings that reach beyond the norm.
When I’m not in the studio, I try to take on a few challenges each year to raise money for a charity of which I am the Trustee Chair. Together with my wife, Noah’s Big Charity was established in 2013, to support Neonatal Intensive Care at two Hospitals close to our hearts. For the charity, as well as my sanity, I run, swim and cycle, taking every day with a smile.

I studied at both The University of Nottingham and The University of Greenwich, before qualifying as a Chartered Member of the RIBA. Richard and I met at The University of Greenwich before we established RHJB. During this time I worked in private practice across the South East, together with various consultancy roles. I was a senior project architect with MKA Architects for over a decade, establishing a wide portfolio based on contemporary design solutions.
I have an array of experience across a broad spectrum of commissions up to several million pounds in value. My particular specialisms are high end residential work, planning negotiation, works to listed buildings, together with Contract management and negotiation. A contemporary approach has always formed the basis of my portfolio – why imitate what has gone before when you can look forward and create something appropriate for now and the future?
I like to work hands on; you’ll always find me with a pencil, sketching ideas at any opportunity. I love working closely with our clients, from “the ground up” exploring exactly what they want, to deliver striking, exciting, buildable proposals.
When I’m not drawing, I’m usually to be found struggling up a hill or two on my bike, or training for another triathlon, often in support of Noah’s Big Charity.
